When we do this , we then can accept and enjoy others. My dad always told me that he had such wonderful children and I would hear him tell that to others also. I did not understand then. I saw the flaws in our family. I saw the fights, the silence, the distance, the differences and really very little joy. But, now I understand at a deeper level. He saw the grander scale of the world than I. He saw that each one of us had the right to develop our own life, our own positive momentum and that was wonderful enough for him.
He always told me to take care of myself and to stop and smell the roses. He never told me how to be good or what color rose to smell.
Being good to yourself is not selfish. Because the more fulfillment you experience, the more value you have to give to others. This is a lesson I continue to learn.
